School Term 2020-21

The students of the GC School (Dratsang) and Buddhist Philosophy class (Shedra) successfully completed the last school year. The mark sheets were handed out to the students before the new term starts on Monday, 26th July 2021.

Chubul Monlam 2019

Gongkar Choede celebrated this years Chobul Monlam in the presence of H.H. the 42nd Sakya Trizin Rinpoche. The festivities included the new abbots enthronement, the convocation ceremony for Shedra students, as well as opening ceremonies of Tantric Institute, the new school hall and web launch of the Dzongpa Literature Project.

Buddhist Philosophy Class

The Gongkar Choede scriptural study class (Shedra) under Khenpo Jampal Choenzin. The students engage in the study of traditional Indian and Tibetan Buddhist texts on logic, Middle-Way Philosophy and the Perfection of Wisdom. Read more

Volunteer English Teacher needed

Gongkar Choede is looking for an ambitious male English teacher, who can teach our student monks on a beginners and intermediate level. The monastery will provide suitable accommodation and basic vegetarian food. Read more

Gongkar Choede Monastery, India

Gongkar Choede Monastery in the Tibetan settlement of Khera camp at Laldang, some 45km north-west of Dehradun in Uttarakhand state of North India. Its re-established in Tibetan Diaspora begun in the middle of the 1990s. Currently Gongkar Choede is home to ninety monks.

Gongkar Dorjeden Monastery, Tibet

The tantric master Dorjedenpa Kunga Namgyal founded the Gongkar Dorjeden Monastery in 1464 in Lhoka prefecture of Central Tibet. The Dzonpa tradition, a sub-sect of Sakya school of Tibetan Buddhism became established here and is practised by its monks up to the present day. Read more

Welcome to Gongkar Choede monastery

Gongkar Choede is situated in the Tibetan settlement of Khera camp at Laldang, some 45 km north-west of Dehradun in the Uttarakhand State of Northern India. The monastery was inaugurated by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness the Sakya Trizin on the 7th of March 2003 and is a non-profit institution registered under the Societies Act of 1860 (no. 1116/1999-2000).

 

Gongkar Choede monastery is home to about 90 monks of different ages who engage in the study and practice of Mahayana Buddhism. Gongkar Choede follows the Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and is the only monastery outside Tibet belonging to the unique Dzongpa Lineage, the practice, study and preservation of which is the monastery’s main objective.

Gongkar Choede is a centre for the teaching and study of the Tibetan language and for maintaining the Tibetan culture and heritage.

 

The monastery also maintains the Gongkar Tsedrup Lhakhang which is dedicated to the longevity of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and His Holiness the Sakya Trizin; the Gongkar School which provides basic education to underprivileged Buddhist children from the Himalayan region and Library.
